Local Arabica Coffee Tour Moshi

Updated: Jul 1

Not more than 15 minutes’ drive from the clatter and chaos of Moshi, you can find yourself on the lower slopes of Iconic Mt Kilimanjaro, deep in the homeland of the traditional Chagga people, tribal monarchs of this land.

Amid the dense vegetation of green bananas, wild canna lilies, ferns and avocado trees, glimpses of decaying remnants of ancient dwellings remind you, you are on sacred ground.

The ground of the Chagga tribe, rich and fertile and kept moist in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. When Arabica coffee plants were introduced to Tanzania in the 16th century from Ethiopia by the German Colonists, these ideal lush, cool and clean growing conditions soon saw Arabica coffee production thrive in this region.

Today coffee makes up a huge 17% of export sales from the country, and no visit to the Kilimanjaro region is complete without a day trip to learn from the locals why Kilimanjaro arabica coffee is highly sought after by coffee lovers’ worldwide.

Your tour guide will explain how the best coffee is grown, harvested, and prepared for the world market. When you’ve heard everything there is to know about producing fine coffee, you will roast your own beans, grind them, and brew the perfect beverage – all the time enjoying the hospitality of these welcoming mountain people.

Lunch of traditional Green Banana Stew, Machalari, fresh avocado and fruit are included in the $25 USD per guest price. (Transport Extra, tips always welcome!)

Of course, the local “Coffee Boys” who have been entertaining you over the tour with their enthusiastic “Coffee Grinding” songs will be quick to show you their original traditional artworks and handmade souvenirs.
