Making Dreams Come True - Not just for the Children!

Updated: Jul 1

I know it’s hard to understand that many children go into care in Tanzania, not because they are orphans in the true sense, but because their parents are unable to care for them and support them.

Can you imagine giving your child over to be cared for by others because you are unable to provide for them.

Village life in Tanzania brings challenges on so many heartbreaking, family destroying levels.

When children cannot be cared for, even fed, social welfare steps in and places these vulnerable children in centres where they can be nourished and given a chance of survival.

And so, it is with my two graduates. They both have parents who love them and miss them dearly, but the tragedy still is that they cannot give them the education and life opportunities they deserve.

Once a child is put in the hands of social welfare and placed in a children’s centre such as Tumaini for Africa Foundation, it is very rare the children return to their families.

Both my graduates today came to the centre at very young ages, from unimaginably desperate circumstances.

The government here offers very little support to children’s centres, the cost of feeding, clothing, homing, and educating these children is born almost solely by the centre.

And that is where sponsors and volunteers are the lifeline of these vulnerable children and the centres, they are placed in.

It’s been 9 years since OneLoveTanzania.com committed to educating Herman and Naseiku, and for me personally, the culmination of 9 years of mentoring, guidance, and positive reinforcement. A truly proud day.

But sharing this remarkable occasion with their biological parents and extended families, was truly a day of unsurpassed blessings.

Meeting Herman’s father, and Naseiku’s parents, sisters and aunties and feeling their pride in their children and gratitude they felt was beyond any perceivable expectation. A day of absolute joy…for everyone.

“It takes the Whole Village to Educate a Child”……..But educate that child, and the whole village benefits.
