Education for Girls Creates Career Opportunities!

Updated: Jul 1

Whoaaaaaa Girls, look at you go!

Of our 300 form 1 maths students at Anna Mkapa Secondary School, only 8 scored an A……not so impressive you might think, but hey, look how many are girls!

7 out of 8 are girls and of the 3 Principal’s awards for overall academic achievement, 2 were girls. In fact, a girl is the highest achieving student, acknowledged today for both her excellence in Mathematics, and overall subject excellence.

Not just coincidence!

Girls at this level are definitely focusing on their future career opportunities and working to reach those goals. Keeping these girls at school as they mature, and encouraging boys that opportunities exist for them also, is the name of the game at this level.

Families are still quick to marry their daughters off, as they still believe that is the only future for them. Unwanted teenage pregnancies still change the course of even bright young girl’s lives, and competition for college places is still high. And like boys, financial restraints impact education outcomes everywhere.

Today, Volunteer Teacher, Lembris Lotta demonstrated to his Form 1 students, hard work does pay by awarding them a certificate of recognition and a small monetary sponsorship from OneLoveTanzania.com in the hope, the value of successful education would be reinforced to the students and their peers.

Small steps and many challenges ahead, but for today, they are happy, confident, and hope is in their heart.

Thank you for taking the time for this quick read…….and know that every dollar you help me make, helps break the vicious cycle of poverty here.
