Which Children?
Education remains the fundamental right of every child. When children become the victim of broken homes, family breakdown, intergenerational poverty, and especially, unplanned pregnancies, that basic right is, so often, lost to them.
OneLoveTanzania.com works to restore that right to children from all backgrounds through our partnerships with both local and Australian-based Non-Government Organisations in Tanzania.
The need for Education Sponsorship for children, both in care and living with families unable to care for, or educate them, is unwavering.

Investing in Education
School Placement
Many factors determine the schools our children attend.
It’s true, Local Government Schools offer overcrowded, poorly resourced classrooms, where teachers essentially deliver an outdated, limited curriculum.
And it’s true they offer no technology studies, creative arts, self-expression, personal development or skill-based learning. And worse, discipline is emotionally detrimental, usually involving caning or beating.
Sadly, we need to work within this system when there is often no other option for children to gain even a basic primary or secondary education.
Ideally, we would sponsor our children to non-government schools which offer a broader curriculum, respect individuality, acknowledge Tanzanian culture, foster personal development and, where teaching English is a priority.
We sponsor young adults with career-focused goals at tertiary levels. We even sponsor into trade areas where the Tanzanian system has failed to identify the technical, creative or practical skills of its teens.
Every child’s needs are individual. Help us give a hand up, not a hand out.

WHY OUR ACTION IS NEEDED.

Despite the Tanzanian Government mandating free education in Government Schools, the real cost to attend a Government school is $300 AUD. per year, at the primary or secondary level.

Still, less than 30% of Tanzanian children satisfactorily complete their secondary education.

In Tanzania, 7 out of 10 eligible children are not enrolled in secondary schools.

Obstacles still prevent girls from attending school regularly.

English language is still not a core subject in Government primary schools.

Only Non-Government schools (Private English Medium Schools) offer a broad curriculum, cultural and creative programs, and promote personal development, but prices are beyond the reach of most.

Tertiary studies, cost prohibitive to all but a few, are realistically $4000 plus AUD per year, including boarding.
Note: While the Government offer a Tertiary Loan Assistance Scheme, limited guidelines, processing delays and low acceptance rates often discourage students away from Tertiary studies.
*One Love Tanzania pays school fees either directly to school bank accounts or through International Humanitarian Development Organisation, Global Development Group.
Our children come from many backgrounds, but all have one thing in common: they deserve better. Finding that “better” is our mission.

Additional Costs
Text books, replacement of lost/stolen school uniform, or even medical expenses may be considered at our discretion.
For boarding students, toiletries, personal needs, soap powder, are essential.
Pocket money to cover day to day school materials and foods such as fruit not provided on the school menu all available on site with a view to building budgeting skills.
None of our children have access to mobile phones, but it’s certainly a future consideration.
Compassionate Care & Guidance
Connecting with our sponsored students, understanding their background and meeting with them where possible is a large part of the hands on role OneLoveTanzania.com plays in these children’s lives.
No child’s life is without doubts or insecurities and all children grow though care and guidance.
We endeavour to be present in our children’s lives and even when we are unable to visit or share time together, we are connecting where we can through guardians, family network, or correspondence. It’s all about the kids.

Highly respected by Local Tanzanian Authorities, other NGO’s, Private and Government Schools in the Kaloleni region, Team Vista is responsible for the education sponsorship of 350 primary, secondary and tertiary students.

An Australian-based not for profit charity whose sole purpose is to provide the financial means to operate a children’s home for orphaned and street kids in Moshi, Tanzania.
