Keeping Dreams Alive… Stanslaus Journey of Hope.

onelovetanzania

Transforming children’s lives and bringing hope through Education in Tanzania is a journey of love, especially with this boy Stanslaus Vicent.

Keeping Dreams Alive… Stanslaus Journey of Hope.

Abandoned to the care of his grandmother since aged 2, Stanslaus has struggled to manage the symptoms of HIV and the impacts of the drugs used to combat it while trying to gain a useful education.

Fatigue, drowsiness and confusion have plagued Stanslaus school days, but never daunted his eagerness to repay his Grandmother and Aunt who have stood by him to young adulthood.

Longing to seek labouring work on the streets, forging his own career path, unaware of ruthless “employers” ready to exploit the vulnerable, Stanslaus education journey has not been easy. Nor has our mission to keep him in school throughout 2024.

Graduation from Secondary School brought a new joy to Stanslaus…… a wonderful new sense of self-belief, achievement, and above all, pride in himself!

A pride we share in this inspiring young man.

Since sitting his final exams and the conclusion of the school year, Stanslaus has been enjoying life away from his village, in the care of Lion King Homestay staff, Sophia and Anthony.

Although only 1 hour’s drive from Moshi Town by dala dala bus, Stanslaus, like so many children growing up in rural villages across Tanzania, only knows the isolation of village community life. Life with limited social interaction, basic life skills and absolutely no exposure to the bustling town culture nearby.

Introducing Stanslaus to town life has brought a new independence to his previously sheltered existence. A new and encouraging confidence and sense of leadership.

The concept of practical learning at the Homestay, has proven Stanslaus to be a quick learner, very adept to hands on tasks and assuming responsibility.  Disciplined in his approach to mastering skills and developing an understanding of the technical aspects of the day-to-day operation of the homestay, has made him a valuable part time member of the Homestay Team

Under the guidance and watchful eye of Anthony, Homestay Askari (Security Guard) and gardener, Stanslaus has learned the basic domestic skills to equip him for a two day a week role at the Homestay. A part time job which not only brings him some essential cash, but the confidence to embrace future opportunities.

Familiarisation with the hospitality aspects of the Homestay have been less productive, due to Stanslaus lack of English skills however great volunteer guests have led the way in welcoming Stanslaus attempts to communicate, and encouraged him to grow his English in a friendly environment, which often produces flashy smiles and laughter at his own shyness of mzungus (Us fairer skinned breeds)

We’re Not Stopping There….

In seeking the best path of learning for Stanslaus, we continue to research training options which will enable him to study in a technical field suited to his ability and interests.

Keen to pursue a career as a truck driver, a foundation in motor mechanics will provide a basic study area leading to future employment paths. Part-time employment at the Homestay with a small renumeration in a positive, home based, environment will continue to strengthen and reinforce positive values.
