Bead craft, like so many traditional skills, is learned early by children in Tanzania, By age 10, children are skilled designers and makers, Slender, dextrous fingers creating intricate tribal designs, keeping cultural traditions alive.

Street children, Empowerment Groups, and many marginalised children in orphanages are being encouraged to build on these skills and benefit from their craft. Entrepreneurs in the making.

With the support of Australian-based NGO Team Vista, Tatu Rafiki, Swahili for Three Friends, have established a highly successful tailoring enterprise in Moshi, Tanzania.
Designing and creating sought-after tourist and souvenir items featuring authentic local kitenge fabrics. With an emphasis on recycling and reducing waste, Tatu support fairtrade and ethical values….and the most amazing bit, they’re all profoundly deaf.

In her own words, Ä Sucker for Beads”, Helen from Anter Hands, only began her own beading journey in 2018.

Captivated by bead artisans around her, and quick to make purchases, Helen soon began dreaming up her own ideas and fashioning her own unique jewellery looks.
Today, Helen is one of our most sought-after artisans. Her stunning earrings, anklets and now single strand necklets, “catching the eye” of shoppers at markets and our Pop-Up Locations
Completely self-taught, Helen’s diversity is only limited by her own creativity, her ability to source exotic beading materials, and where ever she finds inspiration.

Fashioned in the remote village of Msitu wa Tembo, in her single room home with no electricity or running water, Beatrice's creative designs and colours reflect vibrant tribal culture and vast African landscapes.
Unique earrings, bracelets, necklets and anklets, hand-beaded by Beatrice, to support herself, and educate her two youngest children. A tiny business enterprise established and supported by One Love Tanzania, bringing dignity and purpose to this resilient woman's life.

David and Rafi are a couple of pretty cool guys with a flair for artistic creativity which they use in the best possible way in Tanzania.

Fashioning the unwanted, into stunning, sought after commodities in a country where waste disposal is a huge problem, can only be good, right??

David, an artist in his own right has worked closely with One Love Tanzania for several years to deliver art workshops to children denied that opportunity in Government schools here.
Today, David and Rafi specialize in recycled glassware, creating practical small homewares, drinking glasses and a variety of bowls, vases, candleholders and utility dishes.
As for our Australian Sales Points……how cool to be offering rings and bracelets fashioned from bygone era aluminum cooking pots continuing their journey.

Losing her mother a few years ago and faced with looking after an intellectually impaired younger brother, Zawadi took up the beading challenge to support herself and her brother.
Having learned her beading craft from her mother, a highly skilled artisan and previous favorite beadmaker of One Love Tanzania, Zawadi soon developed her own range of colorful, quirky homewares and jewelry……highly sought after by shoppers at our pop up store locations and makers markets .
